How to take hands-free photos on iPhone

Put your iPhone on a stable support, frame the scene, and use an interval camera to take a sequence while you stay in the picture. PicMatic lets you choose the pause between shots and review the results afterward.

1. Set the frame before you step away

Place your phone on a tripod or another stable support. Check that it cannot slide or tip, and leave enough room in the frame for everyone who will join you.

For a solo photo, choose a spot you can return to after checking the screen. For a group, ask someone to stand in position while you compose the picture, then join them.

2. Choose an interval that gives you room

An interval is the pause between photographs. Instead of returning to your phone for every shot, you can let a sequence run while you try a few expressions or move naturally.

Pick an interval in PicMatic that gives you time to settle between pictures. Take a short test sequence and check the framing before making a longer one. If you keep appearing mid-movement, allow more time between shots.

3. Give the sequence a simple purpose

Small variations are easier to review than dozens of unrelated poses. Try one idea for each short sequence:

4. Stop and review before moving on

Check the results on your phone while you can still change the setup. Look for sharp faces, a comfortable expression, and enough space around the people in the frame. Keep the photographs you like rather than assuming the first shot will be the best.

If the framing is wrong, move the phone before starting again. If the pose looks rushed, try a more relaxed sequence with a longer pause between shots.

When is an interval camera useful?

It is useful when you want several opportunities to get the picture while staying away from the phone. A simple camera timer can suit a single planned moment; an interval workflow suits trying a few poses, including everyone in a group, or making pictures without repeatedly resetting the camera.
